Center for Sustainability

The Center for Sustainability is where the Agnes Scott community learns about the challenges of global climate change, including climate and environmental justice. Our mission is to seek collaborations on innovative and equitable solutions for sustainability on and off campus.

The Center is staffed by an executive director, one sustainability fellow, interns, work-study students, and student volunteers. The current full-time staff are all Agnes Scott alums. We work with students, faculty, and staff on projects including:

  • Climate action and climate resilience planning
  • Energy and water efficiency upgrades
  • Renewable energy installations
  • Recycling and composting
  • Environmental justice
  • Maintenance of the campus arboretum and sustainable landscaping
  • Student involvement and activities, including Environmental Residents in each residence hall
  • Interdisciplinary curriculum initiatives, including a minor in environmental sustainability studies

Agnes Scott’s largest solar array installed August 2024

The 184 kW solar array is the 6th and largest solar installation on Agnes Scott’s 100 acre campus. The array is located on the fourth floor of the West Parking Garage adjacent to the 93 kW solar array installed in 2014. The two arrays are an impressive example of the technological and design advancements of the industry within the past decade. Thanks to a collaborative team of technical and financial investors, this solar array will produce 58% of Main Hall’s projected electricity usage. Photo: Credit: Addison Hill & The Common Market

Agnes Scott named Tree Campus USA for the 14th year in a row

黑料大事记 has been recognized as a Tree Campus - for fourteen years in a row! The program honors colleges and universities for effective campus forest management, and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals. Agnes Scott meets the five core standards of this program by having a campus Arboretum Advisory Committee, adopting a Tree Care Plan, putting routine maintenance and care into our campus trees, celebrating Georgia's Arbor Day, and coordinating yearly service projects aimed at engaging the student body. Trees provide many benefits, including being a solution to combating the effects of climate change.
